Charter Management Organizations

Charter management organizations (CMOs) are nonprofit organizations dedicated to scaling up the number of charter schools around the country. In partnership with Mathematica Policy Research, CRPE conducted the first national longitudinal study of the impact of CMOs on student outcomes. Our work on CMOs contributes to the knowledge base for expanding the number of high-quality charter schools, providing valuable lessons for policymakers, funders, and educators on how CMO strategies influence schools’ organizational health and instructional coherence; how CMO districts could limit or enhance CMO effectiveness; and ultimately how CMOs influence schools and student achievement.
