National Board Certification Successfully Identifies Effective Teachers

This research brief summarizes findings that provide the first large-scale evidence that the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is identifying and certifying teachers who will raise student achievement. The study results do not suggest, however, that the NBPTS certification process itself makes teachers more effective.
