The High-Wire Job of Charter School Leadership
Source: Education Week
09/08/2008
This essay by Christine Campbell, Betheny Gross, and Robin Lake, published in Education Week's "Leading for Learning" report on charter school leadership, presents new national survey data about who charter school leaders are, why they take the jobs, where they struggle most, and what can help.
The "Leading for Learning" report draws heavily on research and analysis from NCSRP researchers. In addition to the essay, the report includes:
- Findings from NCSRP's recent report, Closing the Skill Gap: New Options for Charter School Leadership Development. That report analyzes specialized charter leadership programs and offers strategies to address the challenges of building a stronger charter school leadership pipeline.
- References to past and current NCSRP research on charter school scale up and CMOs.
As a follow-on to the report, Paul Hill and Betheny Gross discussed charter school leadership in Education Week's "Leading for Learning: Charter Schools" online chat, September 10. You can find the transcript here.
