Marguerite Roza Receives Change Agent of the Year Award
05/19/2009
Marguerite Roza was one of two recipients of the second annual "Change Agent of the Year" award presented at the May 19 NewSchools Venture Fund Summit on Education Entrepreneurship. The award goes to individuals in the education reform community whose contributions over the past year are worth celebration.
Joanne Weiss, partner and COO at NewSchools, and newly appointed leader of the U.S. Department of Education's Race to the Top Fund, called Marguerite "one of the often unsung heroes who are so close to my heart." In presenting the award, Weiss praised Roza as "the best person in the country on education finance" and said "it is her thoughtful analysis and financial acumen that provided much of the data to support the economic stabilization part of the stimulus package for education – a mere $54B in funds."
The other award went to Jonathan Schnur, co-Founder and CEO of New Leaders for New Schools. Both Roza and Schnur are regarded as entrepreneurial thinkers who have been instrumental in recent federal education reform.
