State Data

map of USA

The NCSRP State Data Resources include information on charter and traditional public schools in D.C. and the 40 states that allow charter schools.

In 2005 and 2006 we surveyed state charter school offices on a number of indicators pertaining to the growth and state of charter schools, including the number of schools and students, demographic information, and school types. Where applicable, we also requested the same information for traditional public schools.

For the fifth annual Hopes, Fears, & Reality we sought to update the data originally collected with the inaugural edition. The traditional public school data are from the National Center for Education Statistics; charter school data are from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. This data is for the 2008-09 school year. Where updated data was not available, we reverted to previously collected data.

The state data is available in two formats:

  • State Reports
Browse reports on how each state’s charter schools compare to other states. Featured data cover charter school enrollment and demographics.
  • State Comparison Data
Find all of the data points for a single state or browse information on all states for a single data point.
