The NCSRP State Data Resources include information on charter and traditional public schools in D.C. and the 40 states that allow charter schools.
In 2005 and 2006 we surveyed state charter school offices on a number of indicators pertaining to the growth and state of charter schools, including the number of schools and students, demographic information, and school types. Where applicable, we also requested the same information for traditional public schools.
For the fifth annual Hopes, Fears, and Reality we sought to update the data originally collected with the inaugural edition. The traditional public school data are from the National Center for Education Statistics; charter school data are from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. This data is for the 2008-09 school year. Where updated data was not available, we reverted to previously collected data.
