Charter-district collaboration is the great unfilled promise of the so-called school choice movement. For the most part, public charters do their thing and district schools do theirs, and they don't learn much from each other about new uses of technology, personalization, classroom management, parent engagement or post-graduate support.

The Center for Reinventing Public Education tracks nearly two dozen school districts across the country that have signed charter-district compacts enabling both sectors to learn from each other. The center found that the benefits of collaboration extend to everyone.
