New York HS Progress Report 2011-2012
April, 2013New York City’s Progress Report, an annual school report card based on progress, performance and school environment, now includes college and career readiness measures. The new metrics, which are worth 10 percent of a school’s overall grade, show how well students are prepared for life after high school on the basis of passing advanced courses, meeting English and math standards set by the City University of New York, and enrolling in a post-secondary institution. In addition, schools earn points for the college and career readiness of students within the lowest third of proficiency citywide.
Empowerment School Performance Agreement
April, 2013This is an empowerment agreement between New York City Department of Education and individual principals. The contract comes into effect in the 2006-2007 school year and carried through the 2009-2010 school year. The agreement outlines the expectations of the principal in regard to Education Programming, Resource Management, Administrative Exemptions, Affiliation, and Support Structure. Additionally the contract highlights the level of accountability the principal will be held to with rewards and consequences clearly stated.
Spotlight on Choice: Parent Opinions on School Selection in New Orleans
January, 2013The Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives conducted a study with Parents who have children in the New Orleans Public School System. The goal was to understand how effective the school choice initiative was in regard to parent choice in New Orleans. This study addresses the history of school choice in New Orleans, as well as their key findings in speaking to parents.
Denver SchoolChoice Grades 1-12
December, 2012DPS families use this school enrollment application to choose any public school in the city—including charter schools and magnet schools. The new form reduced over 60 separate application processes to one document and one timeline. Families rank up to 5 schools on the application. The district combines these preferences with each school’s admissions priorities (e.g. siblings, geographic zone) and conducts a lottery to determine assignments. The application is optional but strongly encouraged for all transition grade students.

Great Philly Schools
October, 2012This online resource was designed to provide Philadelphia adults and students the information they need to make informed decisions about where to enroll in school. The continually developing site offers descriptions, maps and enrollment facts for more than 400 K-12 schools, as well as school performance data covering academics, safety, student engagement, graduation rates and college-enrollment rates.

Public School Choice 4.0 Request For Proposals
May, 2012In keeping with its commitment to provide high-quality education to all students, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is pleased to present the Request for Proposal (RFP) for schools participating in the fourth round of the Public School Choice (PSC) process. The PSC process, which is a major tenet of the district’s Creating and Supporting Quality School’s strategy, was designed to ensure students and families have access to excellent school options in their neighborhoods.
