Tackling the Tough Stuff: We’re Making Progress, But Everyone Has Work To Do

Cities pursuing the portfolio strategy are hard at work. Yet consistent and strong student outcomes across all schools remain elusive. The challenges of poverty span district boundaries and demand citywide solutions. Many schools are disempowered and inequitably resourced. School systems struggle to attract and retain transformational leaders that can lead real and sustainable change. These factors contribute to the persistence of chronically underperforming schools and stymie efforts to open promising new schools. These are the challenges facing portfolio cities and the focus of this meeting: tackling the tough stuff.

By invitation.
