In the summer of 2015, Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel appointed Forrest Claypool to lead the district. Under Claypool the district has fully implemented its School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP), a common accountability tool that provides parents with apples-to-apples comparisons of all schools across multiple metrics including growth, attainment, and school climate. The district also enacted a Charter School Quality policy to govern charter expansion, renewal, and revocation decisions -- also based on the school performance framework. The district has also established a student-based budgeting system to ensure equity for both district and charter schools, while also providing all school leaders with more budgetary autonomy to increase academic achievement and improve student outcomes.
