Oakland is engaging in a massive school redesign process. The new collective bargaining agreement for teachers works in concert with the redesign. Schools have increased site based hiring and can make decisions based on fit to the program. The district has a robust performance framework from which to assess schools and which includes multiple measures of growth, actual performance, climate, and more and is advising the state of California as it seeks to create accountability a state performance framework. OUSD is also working on ways to develop teachers and leaders through Common Core Teacher Leaders, an aspiring leaders program, an executive principal role and professional learning communities.
